Tasting Notes
Crafted from an equal blend of 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Sauvignon Gris, the 2022 Château Les Arromans Blanc leaps out of the glass with an energetic wave of tropical fruit and bright citrus. Juicy guava, ripe pineapple, and exotic starfruit take center stage, anchored by high-toned notes of crisp gooseberry, zesty lemongrass, and vibrant grapefruit. This expressive aromatic profile highlights the unique synergy between the two sibling grapes, merging the classic green-citrus lift of Sauvignon Blanc with the sun-drenched, exotic fruit character of the rare, pink-skinned Sauvignon Gris.
On the palate, the wine reveals a surprisingly lush, medium-plus body with a soft, rounded mouthfeel that sets it apart from standard white Bordeaux. Layers of juicy white peach and subtle ginger coat the mid-palate, where gentle, well-integrated acidity allows the wine's velvety weight to shine. Rather than ending on a sharp acid drop, the finish transitions into a dry, complex grip of grapefruit pith and botanical bitterness. Reminiscent of the herbal snap of a fine gin, this pithy tail end leaves the palate remarkably clean, refreshed, and primed for the next sip.
That distinct botanical finish and rich, tactile texture make this wine an exceptionally versatile partner at the dinner table. Its grapefruit-pith grip acts like a fresh squeeze of citrus over rich and salty dishes, cutting effortlessly through fried calamari, garlic-butter seafood, pan-seared sea bass, or crispy fish tacos. It also pairs seamlessly with herb-forward plates—such as goat cheese crostini, pesto pasta, or chicken rubbed with rosemary and thyme—as well as lightly spiced dishes like mild Thai basil stir-fries or coconut curries, where the wine's ginger and tropical notes feel right at home. -
Story
Founded in 1965 by Jean and Sylvette Duffau in the commune of Moulon, Château Les Arromans was built on a pioneering family legacy. Today, ninth-generation winemaker Joël Duffau carries forward his family’s deep-rooted passion for the land in Bordeaux. The Duffau family history in direct viticulture traces back to 1928, when Joël’s grandfather began selling wine directly to private clients—a rarity for the region at the time. Building on the 30-hectare estate established by his parents, Joël has guided the property into a modern era of precise, environmental winemaking.
A true artisan, Joël pursued organic certification for Château Les Arromans with dedication and conviction. Following years of meticulous vineyard restructuring, every wine across all of the estate's appellations is now fully certified organic. Environmental stewardship remains central to the estate’s daily philosophy—embracing eco-friendly packaging, planting natural hedgerows to support local biodiversity, and minimizing tractor passes through the rows by combining vineyard tasks to lower soil compaction and carbon output.
In the cellar, these sustainable vineyard practices translate into remarkable purity. The estate’s 14 hectares of white wine plots—planted at 5,000 vines per hectare on the clay-limestone slopes of Moulon—yield pristine fruit harvested with state-of-the-art optical sorting and gentle destemming. By pairing brief skin maceration and cold stainless-steel fermentation with aging on fine lees, Joël crafts an organic Entre-Deux-Mers that reflects three generations of Duffau expertise, total respect for the land, and crisp modern precision.

Somm Notes
Sauvignon Gris is Sauvignon Blanc's secret sibling. Just as Pinot Gris is a natural, pink-skinned color mutation of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Gris is a rare genetic mutation of Sauvignon Blanc. In the vineyard, its berries turn a dusty, sun-kissed pink as they ripen, carrying more natural sugar and concentration than its green-skinned twin. Nearly wiped out in the late 19th century because it yielded so little fruit, this historic heritage grape was almost forgotten. Today, dedicated organic winemakers in Bordeaux are reviving it—making its presence in an Entre-Deux-Mers blend a rare and exciting find for wine lovers.
In the glass, Sauvignon Gris completely transforms the drinking experience. Where classic Sauvignon Blanc delivers a sharp, laser-focused splash of lime zest and green citrus, Sauvignon Gris brings a plush, velvety texture and exotic aromatic warmth. It fills the mid-palate with luscious notes of white peach, ripe mango, and pink grapefruit, softened by a touch of honeysuckle and soft spice. It gives the wine a richer, more luxurious weight without losing an ounce of that essential, mouthwatering freshness.
When blended together, these two sibling grapes create the ultimate dynamic duo. Sauvignon Blanc provides the crisp, electric energy, while Sauvignon Gris builds the smooth, tactile body that makes every sip feel complete. It creates a versatile white Bordeaux that moves seamlessly from casual patio sipping to food-friendly dining. Pour it chilled—just a few minutes out of the fridge so those delicate tropical aromatics can shine—and pair it alongside goat cheese, grilled seafood, or dishes loaded with fresh summer herbs. -
Region
Situated between the majestic Garonne and Dordogne rivers in Bordeaux, the historic district of Entre-Deux-Mers - literally "between two seas" - is a landscape sculpted by maritime winds, rolling hills, and ancient riverways. While the vast appellation encompasses a diverse tapestry of soils, its northernmost sector along the Dordogne riverbank stands out as a sweet spot for vibrant white winemaking. Here, cooler river mists and gentle air currents temper the summer heat, allowing white grape varieties to ripen gracefully while protecting the electric acidity and delicate aromatics essential to the region’s signature style.
It is in this privileged northern corner, within the commune of Moulon, that the Château Les Arromans estate is firmly rooted. Sitting directly across the river from Saint-Émilion, Moulon is defined by elevated hillside slopes (coteaux) and premier clay-limestone (argilo-calcaire) soils. While the limestone bedrock imparts a firm, flinty minerality, the active clay layer acts as a natural water reservoir, shielding the vines from extreme drought - a key advantage during hot vintages like 2022. Additionally, plots situated on local boulbène soils (a fine clay-silicic mix) lend extra aromatic intensity and citrus zest to the fruit.
This specific terroir directly shapes the profile of Château Les Arromans' white blend. Rather than producing flat or overly heavy whites, the estate’s estate-grown fruit yields a wine of striking tension and balance. The cooler microclimate and moisture-retaining soils allow the Sauvignon Blanc to deliver bright, clean-cut acidity and white-flower aromatics, while the Sémillon achieves plush, silky depth without losing its refreshing core. The result is a wine that undeniably tastes of its place: energetic, mineral-driven, and beautifully structured.
